The two vehicles collided in the east lanes of the freeway shortly before 4 p.m., with one of them coming off the freeway and hitting a tree, Ontario provincial police said. An adult in one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene, while four others were taken to hospital with serious injuries, OPP said. The driver of the other vehicle was slightly injured, police added. As of 9 p.m., the 417 eastbound highway was still closed between the 66 and 79 mile markers, OPP said. IPP traffic investigators were still at the scene Friday night. Casselman is located about 60 miles[60 km]east of downtown Ottawa.
